Thirteen residents who took part in this year’s Resident Workshops attended a presentation evening in December where Sandra Fawcett, Housing Director – London, presented them with their certificates.
I am honoured to present the Resident Workshop awards and accreditations. This event is a celebration of our residents’ hard work and successes throughout the year.
Sandra Fawcett, Housing Director London
In April 2011, Swan commenced its third successful programme of workshops for residents. Over 60 residents have taken part in the workshops which were held over a period of eight months and facilitated by Swan staff, Axis repairs operatives and other training providers.
We held a review and presentation evening on 19th December 2011 at the Holiday Inn in Brentwood. Thirteen residents attended to give their feedback on the workshops and collect their certificates. Sandra Fawcett, Housing Director – London, presented the group with their certificates.
As promised in the last edition of The Communicator, here are some photos and comments from residents who took part in Food Hygiene, Healthy
Eating and the First Aid courses.
Food Hygiene Course
We held a Food Hygiene Level 2 Award in September. Five residents from London and Essex participated. We are pleased to say that everyone passed and received their certificates at the presentation evening.
The course included the causes and prevention of food poisoning, food storage and handling, basic microbiology, personal hygiene, cleaning, disinfection and pest control.
After the course my friend was about to put some cooked chicken back into a microwave but I stopped her and advised her of the health implications.
Resident First Aid Course
We held a First Aid course in October. Eleven residents from London and Essex participated.
We are pleased to say that everyone passed and received their certificates at the presentation evening.
The course included treating burns and scalds, unconsciousness, choking, fractures, fits and convulsions, wounds, bleeding, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and airway management.
I have excellent first aid skills now, so am confident to help someone if I am needed.
Resident Healthy Eating Course
We held a Healthy Eating course in August facilitated by West Ham Utd’s top chef at the home ground. Five residents from London and Essex participated and were given their own cooking station to cook healthy dishes with the help of the chef.
They cooked chicken and vegetarian pasta dishes along with a soup and a salmon fish dish. It was a great experience and the residents enjoyed
themselves immensely. They were also provided with takeaway boxes and recipe cards.
I am so excited to go home and make these healthy dishes for my family. Thank you Swan for giving me this excellent opportunity.
Resident CIH Level 2 Certificate in Housing
We are also very proud of three of our residents who undertook the CIH Level 2 Certificate in Housing over a six month period at Lewisham
College.
This was the second year that three of our residents attended the four month course at Lewisham College.
We are pleased to announce that they all passed, two with a merit accreditation.
We are currently devising the 2012 workshop programme which will be sent out to you in April 2012.
